GWP : Global Warming Potential

Metric developed by the IPCC to compare the climate impacts of changes of emissions on long-lived, well-mixed gases to that of CO2 over a specific time horizon.

GWP are calculated as the ratio of the radiative forcing of one kilogramme greenhouse gas emitted to the atmosphere to that from one kilogramme CO2 over a period of time (tipically 100 years).

Carbon dioxide has been designated a GWP of 1; Methane, for instance, has a GWP of 23.
